What is the Kids Run the OC?

The Kids Run the OC program presented by MemorialCare was designed to help pre-adolescent kids become more physically fit, promote an active and healthy lifestyle and combat the onset of childhood obesity. . . while having fun! This is accomplished through various games, which help improve speed, agility, hand/eye coordination, flexibility and your child's overall fitness. Students from each participating school will be led through our popular and fun training program by their OC Marathon certified coach.

Due to the Corona-virus pandemic, the Kids Run the OC program has cancelled all in person practices and events for the 2020 calendar year.  We have implemented virtual running opportunities for Kids Run the OC participants and schools.  This includes the mailing and distributing of 2020 Kids Run the OC Shirts and Medals from our May events as well as the implementation of the Kids Run the OC "Triathlon" Challenge.   For more information on the Triathlon Challenge, please visit THIS PAGE.

Typically, the Kids Run the OC program presented by MemorialCare also offers a Fall Half-Marathon 6-8 Week Training program finishing with a Final 1 Mile event to complete the program.   The Fall "Half Marathon" Program begins in September and ends with the final mile event taking place at the Run for A Claus 5K & 1 Mile presented by Optima Tax Relief at University of California, Irvine. The 2020 Run for a Claus event will take place virtually this year. To sign up for Run for A Claus 1 Mile event please visit www.runforaclaus.com.

The Spring "Marathon" Program typically begins in February, and by the end of the program each student will have accumulated the equivalent of 25.2 miles of fun activity, and will be ready to finish their own Marathon by completing their final mile at the Kids Run The OC presented by MemorialCare.  The event is held in conjunction with The OC Marathon finish line events at the OC Fair and Event Center.   The OC Marathon provides the training and program materials for the coaches at each school location. All you need is a committed group of teachers and/or volunteers to run the program on site. In 2019, we had over 9,500 participants from 150 schools in 19 Orange County School Districts in the program and could not have done it without the amazing support of our volunteer coaches at each school and their supportive principals and staff.

We would always prefer to be hosting in person events and we are hopeful that the 2021 event will take place on Saturday May 1, 2021
